From KIRKIS REVIEW
The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire anchors a generations-long family tragedy in this brooding historical melodrama.
Fleeing his violent, corrupt father—the first of the novel’s string of brutal patriarchs—16-year-old Junior Millwood travels in steerage from Ireland to the teeming New York City of 1906, a journey that begins a lively immigrant bildungsroman. Right off the boat he’s beaten and robbed, has his meager earnings skimmed by a sly foreman and gets entangled with tenement sirens. Fortunately, his love for Moira, the winsome lass he left behind, endures; soon he brings her over, marries her and secures her a job at his garment factory. Alas, the factory is the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Company, where a 1911 fire killed 146 workers. The disaster, grippingly depicted here, was worsened by blocked exits, faulty fire escapes and other code violations, and became a rallying cry for the labor movement. It also leaves Junior bereft and burdened with a shameful secret This first act of his saga is a vivid, well-researched recreation of working-class life in the early 20th century, supplemented with 14 pages of documentary endnotes.

Edge of The Triangle edition by d cook Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Edge of the Triangle is a wonderful story filled with themes of love, loss, struggle, faith, family and perseverance. The book also spans quite a large time frame in the history of the United States and really touches on many major historical and political events in our country. I most enjoyed learning about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire and all the labor movements it began. I had no clue what a prolific event that was in our history. Definitely a great read! Buy it!
I picked up this book after attending the 100th Anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire. The author was there handing out business cards to promote his book so I gave it a shot.
After hearing about this tragedy and the subsequent labor rights movement that happened soon after, the book was a perfect compliment. Great story that gave you a lot of history while shaping it around a few key characters and how their lives pushed forward up to the day of the fire and then beyond. Well written and smart. If you've done any research on the fire itself, you'll love to go deeper in your knowledge, and if it's your first time hearing about it, you'll get a first hand account(the main character is a cutter's assistant) of how the events transpired. This is a historical fiction, but since nobody can tell how the fire was started, this idea is entirely plausible.
Enjoyable and would recommend to anyone who likes historical fiction that is compelling and heartfelt. A+
This is an informative book. Details were researched well before presenting this Historical fiction. Appreciation for the researched details is felt by this person. It would be interesting to know if there is any fact involved in the creation of the particular main family of the story.
Much of the language is crude(although I know it was and is used all too frequently) and there are other situations that had no strong baring on the story which could have been handled more tactfully.
The story dragged out a little too much.
Truly great writers can write without crudeness and vulgarity.
I won this book and do appreciate D. H. Cook for the generosity in donating this book to the giveaway.
However, because of the above reasons, I could not recommend this book to others nor would I have bought it for the same reasons.
The book was bought as a gift, so haven't read it. Had I known it had to come all the way from England I wouldn't have ordered it.
My dad sent me this book for my and I started reading it. Very informative and it a good story too. The story really got me interested in this time in history.
